What is a fouta ?
The foutas were originally Indian fabrics or pieces of cloth. It is in Tunisia that the fouta then experienced a lightning development to become the traditional towel for the sauna, the hammam and the spa. Nowadays, the fouta has become the essential summer accessory for sunbathing and drying off on the beach or at the swimming pool, and is now sold all over the world.
Most often made of cotton, a fouta is distinguished from other beach and bath towels by its 100x200 cm size and by the hand-rolled fringes at each end. The various weaving methods (flat, honeycomb, herringbone, etc.) give it finesse and lightness for rapid drying. At BY FOUTAS, we have chosen to sublimate the fouta and to adapt it to the challenges of eco-responsibility. All our models of beach foutas and XXL foutas are woven in 100% recycled cotton in Tunisian artisanal workshops. They are then transported to the homes of craftswomen who knot the fringes by hand and thus provide an additional income for their households. In order to fight against the over-consumption of paper and plastic, we only use recyclable packaging, which is itself produced by a recycling process. They can also be used in case of product return.
